The Laxey Wheel

The Great Laxey Wheel is the largest surviving working wheel of its kind in the world. Designed by the Victorian engineer, Robert Casement, the wheel was built in 1854 to pump water from Glen Mooar part of the ‘Great Laxey Mines’ industrial complex. The impressive 22m (72.5 feet) diameter structure found immediate popularity and has remained one of the Island’s most dramatic tourist attractions for over 150 years.​

Laxey tram way!

The Manx Electric Railway operates a year round service along the coast via Laxey from its terminus at Derby Castle, in Douglas to Ramsey. No visit to Laxey is complete without taking a ride on the Manx Electric Railway from the Laxey station to the top of Snaefell.​

Laxey Beach

Laxey bay beach is a sandy beach running from the river mouth and harbour to Old Laxey backed by a promenade. Also occassionaly stoney at certain times of the year. Dogs are not allowed between the harbour and the access steps at the bottom of the Zig-zag path from Old Laxey Hill during the day between the 1st May and the 30th September.However a great location for fishing. Close to the town centre and shops.​
